Introducing Me
.
I know I briefly introduced myself on the “About” page of my website, but I would like to share a little more about myself and my life. My name is Kendra Mendez. I grew up in Naples, FL, but I have also lived in Missouri and soon I will live in Texas. I could spend a lot of time telling you some personal facts, like my favorite color or food, or my hobbies, but I would rather share more about the experiences in my life where I knew that God was really speaking to me and what led me to start this blog about God speaking in our lives.
I feel like even from a really young age the Lord has been speaking to me. When I first decided to believe in Jesus, I was six years old and it seemed like after that the Lord would speak to me left and right. At the time I didn’t recognize it as God speaking to me but looking back I see that He was.
Later on when I was about 16 years old I rededicated my life to the Lord and was filled with the Holy Spirit. But I didn’t completely understand everything that meant at the time, but I do believe that it increased my ability to hear God’s voice by a lot. I saw the evidence of this increase during a portion of a week long program I was attending that summer. It was called a sing and share; everyone would worship and then share something they felt like God was putting on their hearts.
In the summer’s before that I had never really felt like sharing anything, but that summer was different. I knew that I heard God and that He wanted me to share something and I had never been so sure about something like it before. So that night I shared what was on my heart and I felt like from that point onward things in my relationship with God were different.
The year I turned 18, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my future. There were several options, community college, working, or possibly being a missionary like my oldest sister. It seemed like my mom was pretty comforted by the idea of me staying in Florida and going to community college so I wouldn’t be far away from home, so the decision was made.
So, at the end of July I was getting ready for college. When out of the blue, I got a call from my brother-in-law who also worked at the Missions Organization’s headquarters with my sister in Missouri and he said there were intern positions open there. After praying about it, I knew that it was what God was calling me to do. So I was interviewed and accepted. And then within a two week’s notice was headed on an airplane to Missouri.
My experience working at the headquarters and being in a new place actual went fairly well and my relationship with God continued to strengthen despite all of the blows the enemy tried to throw my way. While I was there I saw how God was continually increasing my ability to hear His voice and I became a lot more familiar with it while I was there.
I think that brought me to a very interesting time in my life, which was my friendship, then relationship and now marriage with my husband. I first met my husband when I was working as an intern in the IT department. About a year later we started becoming better friends when one night the Lord gave me a vision and told me he was going to be my husband.
With this new information I felt the need to get to know him better than I had in the past. Despite the fact that the Lord told me to focus on Him and not get distracted. It becomes increasingly apparent when God asks for obedience that I am stubborn and want to do things my way. So in obstinance, I started pursuing a friendship with him and that led us to start spending a lot more time together and have more conversations in person and through texting. But in January of 2017, I was in Florida and he was in Missouri and I felt like the Lord was telling me that we weren’t supposed to talk anymore. I was really sad, because at that point we had become really good friends.
But I decided to follow God even though I wasn’t sure how it would work out, but even though we weren’t texting, or calling God still brought us back together and we started dating in September of 2017 and then got married two years later in 2019. We both were working in Missouri around the time we got married.
However, shortly after we got married I started feeling like God was calling us to leave the Missions Organization we had both been working for in Missouri and go to Florida. I wasn’t sure what this truly meant or looked like for us, but we both knew it was what God was wanting us to do. We both left our full-time jobs and moved to Florida to attend classes that my parent’s church was hosting called School of Ministries. It was scary but God provided every step of the way.
During my time in Florida attending those classes really helped my ability to hear the Lord and I learned so much about my giftings and talents. I also started to better understand what being filled with the Holy Spirit meant. The Lord taught me a lot about prophecy and showed me all the different ways I could use this gift for the Lord by encouraging and uplifting others. I feel like the Lord also gave my husband and I a vision for our calling during this time.
Part of that vision was for me to start this blog, I had tried blogging in the past. Writing down things that the Lord had taught me and sharing it on the internet. But this time I felt like He wanted it to be bigger than that mostly because I never shared the other blog. So going off of what He was showing me I started this website. And shortly after I started it the Lord gave me so many things to write about and I knew that it was part of what He wanted me to do.
The other aspect of the vision was something He wanted us to do as a couple. He wanted us to travel around the US and help people with their house projects, or anything they might need. But it was more than just that it was to be available for whatever the Lord would want us to do there. Which could be praying over people, blessing houses, or prophesying over people. We want to be ready and willing to be used however the Lord wants to use us.
We have already seen God using us in this way as we stayed with my parents and helped them with their renovation, going to Missouri for a month and helping my friends move and helping another friend with an event. Now we are moving to Texas, where we will be helping my husband’s parents repair and update their house. We will also be waiting on the Lord to hear what direction He will lead us in and who we will be led to help next.
In the future when we do make another trip to help someone, I will be writing an update on this blog. You can find all of our travel updates under the “Personal Updates” tab on the Blog page.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about me and how God has spoken to me through the past. I have truly enjoyed every step of the way, as He teaches me how to hear, learn and know His voice.
