Let Him Lead

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

I wrote this two years ago, and I still remember where I first got the inspiration for this, every day after my classes at the institute I would go out into the woods by the lake and I would put on music and dance. I remember feeling as though He was with me and dancing with me and this is what He taught me.

Life is like a dance. For the longest time, I let others, or even myself lead the dance. But the more that I fail to get the steps right or am not in time with the music. I realize I need a new partner. And now I realize who the best partner is, it's Jesus. Jesus knows the dance perfectly and He teaches us how to do it. But in order to learn, we must let Him lead, even though we think that we know all the steps and how it is supposed to go. We have to completely let go of all those ideas and let him lead wherever He wants to because He knows.

It is not easy to let go of being in control, but it is often the best for us and others around us. Besides won't the dance be that more beautiful if it is taught by the one who made it? But sometimes we try to figure out the whole dance at once, but that is not how it works we just have to trust that Jesus knows where we need to go. We look down at our feet trying to know every step before it happens, but when we do that we start to trip over our own feet. But the beautiful thing is that when we begin to look up we see the face of our maker and he is looking at us in love. He loves us so much and He is been waiting for us to trust him that He will be there for every step and every turn leading us. And as we begin to look at Him, He starts talking to us and telling us that we are beautiful, and loved. When we look at our feet we can't hear His voice as well, but as we look up at His face we can hear more clearly all the encouragement that He is constantly telling us. Life was never meant to be rushed or known completely from the beginning, and neither is the dance. We were meant to enjoy every step of the dance that Jesus has planned for us with Him. And if we are looking at Him and enjoying Him as He teaches us and leads us, we begin to realize that the dance was not only created for us to enjoy but for us to grow closer to Him and get to know Him more. As we go through the dance many other partners will try to cut in, and if we let them they might make it harder for us to learn the dance like we were meant to. But if we are patient and learn the dance with Jesus when it comes time for someone to cut in, they will be the right person and I will be able to trust them to lead me because I know that every step that they take is guided by Jesus and when I danced with Jesus I learned to trust him.
