The Voice of Truth
Updated: Aug 2, 2021
Recently, I have been thinking a lot about what I am doing in the future and this question worries me a lot. With this question comes a whole lot of fear and anxiety. But more and more, I am realizing that I can’t be afraid. Fear is not from the Lord, except for fear of him. God has been speaking to me a lot about faith. And what it means to have faith.
Faith is
Faith is trusting as soon as you make the decision to step out of the boat. He is going to be there the whole time calling you nearer and nearer to him. If you drop your eyes from his gaze then you will fall, but that is where faith comes in, we are believing that once we step out of the boat he is going to catch us, if at any point we start to look around and lose sight of him.
Sometime’s fear or worries are so loud and raging all around us, it distracts us from listening to his voice, the voice of truth, because he is truth. As he says in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth and the life. And when we start listening to these lies and worries in our head we forget that the only thing that matters is that we keep walking toward Jesus, listening to his voice, and keeping our eyes locked only on him. The problems is once we start listening to anything other than his voice, we start to fall. The great thing about falling is that he is holding out his hand ready to catch us when we fall, because he knows that we are going to fall, but he is ready and able to help us up again.
Last night, I was talking to one of my very close friends and we were talking about the future. I kept mentioning how I was afraid, he said the only way to fight fear is with the truth, and the best way to spend your time while waiting for an answer is to be thinking about the truth, which is the Word of God.
And one thing that kept coming to my mind was the song, The Voice of Truth. The first verse and the chorus really sum up what the Lord has been teaching me.
Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
To the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out his hand
But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again, "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win"
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
He has called me out of the boat, out of my comfort zone, and the only thing that I can do is to take a step of faith and get out of the boat and start walking toward Him. Trusting that He will be there, leading me the whole way. I will keep taking each step, having faith that He will catch me, when I lose sight of him, or when the worries and lies get so loud, I can’t hear him, because I know He is watching over me and waiting with his hands outstretched.
