Got Jesus?

Standing in the doorway of my room, I listened to my mother explain the Gospel to me for the first time. She told me how the bad things I did or sin made my heart dark and kept me from being with God. But Jesus could clean all of those things away and make my heart clean. That is when I knew I wanted to believe in Jesus as my Savior from my sin. At six years old I could understand the gravity of what it meant to be separated from someone I loved so much (because every child loves Jesus, how could they not). After that my life was never the same.

If you haven’t already believed in Jesus, I immediately want to ask, “Why not?” Or “What are you waiting for?” But I also know that sometimes it is hard to trust in something you can’t see, hear or touch. I think if you are reading this it’s either because you are already a believer and want to know what I have to say about this. Or it’s because God has already been working on your heart and you know this is a decision you want to make, but you just need someone to push you in the right direction. Or maybe you have never heard about this at all and are curious.

Well, here is what I have to say about Jesus. He is the only Son of God, who was sent to earth and born of a virgin, a miracle that took place by the power of the Holy Spirit. He lived a perfect sinless life, meaning He never broke any rule that God set in place or did anything that went against who God is. He walked on the earth with people and lived as a human. In every way He understood what it meant to be like us, to struggle like us, to feel pain like us, and to live like us. Because He was the Son of God, and was filled with the Holy Spirit around the age of 30, He was able to do miracles here on the earth and have a relationship with God the Father.

Because we aren’t perfect, we lie, steal, lust, cheat, and all sin we deserve to be punished for those things and that punishment is death, and then eternal separation from our Creator. But Jesus willingly took that punishment and died on the cross for us. Three days after His death the greatest miracle that ever happened in the history of mankind took place, HE ROSE from the dead. And that made a way for all those who believe in Him to become reunited with the Creator, while on the earth and then after we die to be with Him forever in His Kingdom.

After He rose He was seen by His disciples and many other people until He ascended into Heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father. This is where He will be until He comes back for all those who believe in Him and put to right all the wrongs here on this earth. If you want to read about this you can read the book of John, which is in the Bible. You don’t have to read the whole book if you don’t want to, but it does give a really good picture of who Jesus is. If you just want to read about what Jesus did to save you from your sins, you can read chapters 18-21.

So, why believe in something you can’t see, hear or touch? Because if you choose to believe it is the most real thing this world could ever offer you. Happiness does not last forever, things don’t last forever, but Jesus does, and if you believe in Him you will live forever with Him in His Kingdom. I can’t convince you to make the decision to believe in Him or all He does, but He is able to make it real to you.

If believing in Jesus and all that He has done for you is something you would like to do, then that is all you have to do. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that “Jesus is Lord” (Acts 16:31) and you will be saved. Another thing that you can do after this is repent of the sins you have done and ask for His forgiveness and He will clean your slate (1 John 1:9). There is no right or wrong way to do this, if you truly believe in your heart that He died for you and that He was raised, you are saved. Don’t let fear or the enemy confuse you. Saying it out loud just confirms what you already believe on the inside.

Those that do not believe still have to suffer the consequences of their sins, which is eternal separation from God. But God does not want to force you to believe in Him or scare you into it either, the choice is completely up to you.

He did all of this because He can’t imagine ever being separated from you, that is how much He loves you. But He also loves you so much He wants you to have the choice of whether or not you will receive what He has so freely given.

Another one of the best things about this is once you make this decision you have a family that is so large you will never fit in the same room while on this earth. There are millions of other people just like you, that at one point faced a decision and once that decision was made they became a part of huge family, God’s family. The thing that is so great about this is that you now have a network of people who will love and support you in your journey to knowing more about God, but you will need to remember that they are still people and they will make mistakes.

If you do decide to make this decision, please send me a message I would love to celebrate with you and pray for you! If you need someone to pray for you, have questions about what it means to be saved or would like to know more about what comes after becoming saved, feel free to send me a message. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have or pray for you for any need you might have. Even if you don’t decide to believe right now and have something you need someone to pray for I would still love to pray for you.

Here are some scriptures that support what Jesus did, there are so many more scriptures that also speak of what He has done, but these are just a few that I thought would be helpful:

John chapters: 18, 19, 20, 21
